Green Legislation/Incentives
There are several state and federal programs that relate to green building, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Below is information on some of these programs. More information can be found through the
DSIRE website, which is a database of information on state, local, utility, and federal incentives and policies.
State of New Mexico

The NM Sustainable Building Tax Credit (SBTC) encourages private sector design and construction of energy efficient, sustainable buildings for commercial and residential use. The tax credit is based on third-party validation of the building's level of sustainability. |

The NM Solar Market Development Tax Credit, or Solar Tax Credit (STC), will pay up to 10% (up to $9,000) of a solar photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal system that is operational subsequent to January 1, 2009. In addition to the STC, the federal government will pay 30% in a federal tax credit for a solar system. The STC was established in 2006 to help encourage investment in clean energy. |

The Solar Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) Exemption was established through the passage of House Bill 996 sponsored by Representative Mimi Stewart and was later incorporated into Senate Bill 463 pages 55-56. The Solar GRT exemption became effective July 1, 2007. The Solar GRT exemption is available for the sale and installation of a solar energy system. |
