Annual GreenBuilt Tour

Apply to have your home on the USGBC NM Chapter’s 10th Annual Greenbuilt Tour

Applications are due by January 31, 2009. Obtain an application form online at www.greenbuilttour.net. Our 10th annual Greenbuilt Tour will take place May 16 and 17, 2009. At this year’s tour we hope to feature homes certified under Build Green New Mexico or LEED for Homes standards, as well as new and renovated homes with exceptional green features or innovative materials and techniques. These features could include the use of passive and/or active solar design and technology, sustainable design and construction, new and different alternative building envelopes, significant green attainment and/or unique, innovative, and comprehensive green features. 2009's Sustainability Week events will commence with an opening ceremony on Friday, May 8. On Saturday, May 9 and 10, in Albuquerque, a series of lectures and workshops will be held along with a vendor's show, for people to learn more about green building and see products and materials that are environmentally friendly. During the week, there will also be a tour of green commercial buildings.

Sustainability Week culminates with the U.S. Green Building Council New Mexico Chapter's tenth annual GreenBuilt Tour in New Mexico on May 16 and 17, 2008.

Homes on the tour will be rated for their “green-ness” and awards will be given to the “greenest” homes at our kick-off event on May 8. Participating properties will be charged a minimal fee to offset the cost of producing the GreenBuilt Tour guide that profiles the properties and provides how-to articles on ways to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.

We hope those who have built a green home will share their inspiration by applying for this year’s Tour. The GreenBuilt Tour started in 2000 and featured 11 properties in Albuquerque and was the first such event in the nation. The event was started by the Green Alliance, a non-profit organization that later became the New Mexico Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. Last year’s GreenBuilt Tour featured 24 properties in Taos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

For more information on the GreenBuilt Tour, visit www.greenbuilttour.net.

Community Events

Albuquerque GREEN DRINKS 2009

This year we will have fewer, but more organized events. The causal atmosphere of Green Drinks for networking and mingling will still remain, but each (free) event will feature a theme, a presenter and/or a sponsor.

What is Green Drinks? Every month, around the world, people who work in the environmental field meet up at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network. These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done business deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities. Come along and you’ll be made welcome!

Location:
O’Niells Pub Party/Banquet Room (4310 Central Ave SE @ Washington in East Nob Hill, Albuquerque)

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of Green Drinks please contact Lisa: lll@smpcarch.com for more information.
